See You At cf.Objective()

After much delay, I've finally got a hold on the sessions we'll be presenting at cf.objective() 2008. It was a bit harder to plan for this conference since the team behind cf.obj() is really focused on enterprise development. This meant I couldn't offer the same old 'ColdFusion 8 Feature X' type of presentation and instead had to come up with some higher-level ideas. Here's what we've got lined up...

3 ColdFusion Sessions During Adobe Developer Week

Next week marks the return of Adobe Developer Week and I'm presenting 3 different ColdFusion sessions. The first session on Monday is aimed at new CFML customers and is an overview of the award winning release. On Wednesday we'll step it up a notch and explore the Adobe Technology Platform and how to build ColdFusion powered Flex/AIR applications. The final sessions on Thursday is a bit more advanced and I'm really looking forward to it. We'll use the open source Blaze DS project to add simple chat functionality to an existing ColdFusion application (while providing an overview of CF/LCDS integration). Free ColdFusion 8 Training

I'm working with New Toronto Group (one of our largest ColdFusion partners in North America) to put together a free 2-hour training session on ColdFusion 8. There is a ton of new stuff in CF8 (the largest release to date) and I'm going to try and cover as much as I can in two hours. he onAIR tour is getting ready to roll out soon. This time it's a multi-country extravaganza through Europe. If you are currently building Flex/AJAX based applications in Europe, you really should step out for this event.

Is Adobe Flex Really Accessible? You bet your robot voice it is!

Speaking as developer whose built large scale .gov websites and applications that met the US government's eGov and section 508 standards, building accessible applications for the flash player is a heck of a lot easier that building for the browser. Of course, there isn't anything inherent to Flex that just auto-magically makes you applications more accessible just because they are in the Flash player. It's still up to us as developers to code our applications in a responsible manner that inter operates well with the existing tools like JAWS (the leading screen reading software). However, there are some things about Flex that make our lives a lot easier. When asked about Flex accessibility (which comes up quite frequently) it's almost a joke to point out that it's as easy as 'accessible = true'.

I know what you're thinking... "Isn't this the same guy who nearly got beat-up for talking smack about Apple and is constantly making fun of PHP/Ruby fanboys?". Guilty as charged. I know I'm not what most people expect from an Evangelist (I actually like Vista, I'm focused on sales and I <3 ColdFusion). However, I think that's exactly why I'm very good at this job and hopefully I can change perceptions about Evangelism and about ColdFusion.
